In addition, a lack of appropriate UVB exposure plays a role\u2014reptiles cannot properly absorb and use calcium if they don\u2019t have enough UVB exposure.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The early signs of MBD can be subtle, though. Here\u2019s what to look out for when you observe or interact with your scaly friend:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tenwestvet.com\/blog\/dental-care-for-exotic-pets\/\">Jaws<\/a> that feel soft or look swollen<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Muscle twitches and\/or body tremors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Difficulty climbing or scampering like usual<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lethargy, limping, or swelling in the legs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Limbs that look misshapen or curved<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Loss of appetite<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Keep in mind that these are <em>early <\/em>&nbsp;signs. As the condition progresses, your reptile might develop bone fractures, deformities, and even paralysis. And young, growing reptiles are more vulnerable because their bones need lots of calcium to develop normally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Exploring the Causes of Reptile Metabolic Bone Disease<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the leading causes of MBD is insufficient care.
